SEEKING:
Principals: Strong Singer/Actors with ability to sing both muscical theater and pop. Featured and Lead Vocalists hired for HAIRSPRAY (3-4 performances weekly) will also perform in our Signature production show onboard the Symphony of the Seas: FLIGHT (3-4 performances weekly). Movement or dance background ability a plus. Candidates must be available and willing to travel internationally aboard our ships.

Ensemble: Dancer/Singers with strong technical dance abilty. Dancer/Vocalist Ensemble hired for HAIRSPRAY (3-4 performances weekly) will also perform in our Signature production show onboard the Symphony of the Seas, FLIGHT (3-4 performances weekly). The ability to sing both musical theatre and pop is an asset. Candidates must be available and willing to travel internationally aboard our ships.


OPEN CALL INFORMATION: 

Principals: Prepare two songs - one traditional musical theater and one pop/rock.

Ensemble: Please come prepared to dance first. Also prepare a 16 bar cut of a pop/rock song.

Bring headshot, resume, and personal songbook in case you are asked to sing something different. 

Rehearsals: 5/14/24 - 7/18/24

SEEKING:


PRINCIPAL SINGERS

Prior to your audition you will need to print out and prepare the audition material required. Also, come prepared with your best 16 - 32 bars of 2 contrasting up-tempo pieces in Pop style. Sheet music required in the proper key. Be prepared to dance and read sides. Vocal versatility a plus. Singers will also perform in our Signature Production Show.


DANCERS ENSEMBLE

We are casting strong versatile technical dancers with a Musical Theatre/Commercial/Tap background. You will also perform in our Signature Production Show. Another character-driven show and personality is key. Be prepared to read sides. Tumbling and Aerial background a plus. Will also perform in our Signature Production Show.

Male to play female, age 40 - 50. Caucasian, large physique. A mother - sincere and honest. 60's Baltimore housewife, larger-than-life character actor with strong singing ability. Exceptional acting and comic timing a must. Simple dance/movement required. Bass-Baritone.



TRACY TURNBLAD (FEATURED SINGER)

Female, plays late teen. Caucasian, 5' 5". Plus-size teen with aspirations to change the world. She is outgoing, unstoppable, and goodhearted with a vibrant, lovable, spirited personality. Loves to dance. Mezzo-Soprano with a strong theatre/pop belt. Great mover/dancer.



LINK LARKIN (FEATURED SINGER)

Male, plays late teen. Caucasian 5'9" or taller. Handsome, sexy, clean-cut, goodhearted, down-to-earth. The heartthrob of The Corny Collins Show. Strong pop singer and excellent mover. High Bari-Tenor with strong falsetto.



MOTORMOUTH MAYBELLE (FEATURED SINGER)

Female, age 40 - 50. African-American. Seaweed and Little Inez's mother. Queen of Baltimore Soul, a radio DJ. Powerful and inspiring, with an infectious, brassy personality. Soulful, gospel/pop singer. 60's cool and hip. Liberal, part of the civil rights movement. Strong actress with ability to convey depth and light-heartedness. Minimal movement required. Alto with high belt.



CORNY COLLINS (FEATURED SINGER)

Male, age 30 - 35. Caucasian. Host of The Corny Collins Show. Handsome, charming, engaging, smooth. Young Dick Clark type. Strong pop singer, movement a plus. High Baritone.



SEAWEED J. STUBBS (FEATURED SINGER)

Male, plays late teen. African-American. Cool, sexy, street smart, goodhearted. Penny's boyfriend. Great actor with strong young masculine presence. Excellent, soulful, pop singer and great mover. Tenor to A with strong falsetto.



PENNY PINGLETON (FEATURED SINGER)

Female, plays late teen. Caucasian. Spacy, ditzy, devoted best friend of Tracy. Good sense of comedic timing. Strong high belt, contemporary theatre/pop voice. Good movement/dance skills a plus. Mezzo Soprano.



AMBER VON TUSSLE (LEAD VOCALIST)

Female, plays late teen. Caucasian. Bratty, spoiled princess who gets her way - popular at school. Tracy's nemesis. Must be an excellent dancer with solid technical training. Mezzo Soprano.



VELMA VON TUSSLE (FEATURED ACTOR)

Female, age 35 - 50. Caucasian. Former beauty queen, Amber's mother. Upscale, attractive, and prejudiced snob who always wants her daughter in the spotlight. Big fish in a small pond - domineering. Has poise and good body awareness, with excellent vocals. Mezzo Soprano with strong belt mix.


PRUDY PINGLETON (FEATURED ACTOR)

Female, age 40 - 55. Caucasian. Exceptional comedic actress to play various zany roles including Penny Pingleton's uptight and small-minded mother. Also portrays a sadistic high school gym teacher who must be a sharp, funny, inventive character. Minimal-singing role. Simple dance movement required. Mezzo Soprano.



WILBUR TURNBLAD (FEATURED ACTOR)

Age 40 – 55

Male, age 40 - 55. Caucasian. Working class inventor. Tracy's Father. Sweet, goofy, childlike personality. Excellent comedic timing. Also portrays various roles including a flamboyant fashion boutique owner and a condescending high school principal. Must be an inventive character actor. Simple dance movement required. Baritone.



PEARL (LEAD DYNAMITE) (FEATURED SINGER)

Female, age 25 - 30. African-American. An exceptional R&B and soulful pop singer. Must be able to sing tight harmonies and move very well - part of the ensemble. Understudies Motormouth. Mezzo Soprano with strong belt mix up to high A.



LITTLE INEZ (LEAD VOCALIST)

Female, plays early teen. African-American. Spunky, tough, streetwise and outgoing. Seaweed's lovable little sister. Must be able to move/dance well - does dancer choreography. Dynamites understudy. Soulful voice with strong belt mix. Mezzo Soprano.

Project Dance is currently casting for its forthcoming professional production, BUSK, a narrative dance theatre work touring countrywide. Seeking: Professional dancers with high proficiency in contemporary, jazz classical and street dance styles and a strong acting ability. Some tracks also require skills in tap dance, and a strong vocal ability. Engagement Period: 21st February - 4th April 2027 Fee: In line with ITC 2026/27 rates of pay. Holiday pay will be paid.
